Virginia Burt, Principal

Virginia Burt, FCSLA, FASLA, creates landscapes and gardens of meaning for residential clients, healthcare facilities, and academic and governmental organizations. Virginia graduated with honors from University of Guelph in 1985 and worked in offices in Aspen, Colorado and Toronto, Ontario before founding Virginia Burt Designs in 1996.  Virginia’s love of the land, the inspiration for her work, began early in her life.  Growing up on an apple farm Virginia developed a passion for being outside and understanding the rhythms of nature.   For more than 30 years, Virginia’s design philosophy has reflected these roots, enabling her to create gardens and landscapes that reveal their natural context and sensitively reflect and support those who use them.

Virginia’s international award winning work has been widely recognized. These awards include two CSLA National Awards in 2017, a Merit Award from the Ohio Chapter of the ASLA in 2016, a National CSLA Award of Merit in 2015, National ASLA Award of Merit in 1999, Ohio Chapter ASLA Awards in 2008 and 2013, and a Palladio Award in 2014. Virginia is one of 7 women in the world honored to be designated a Fellow in the Canadian Society of Landscape Architects and in the American Society of Landscape Architects. Fellows are recognized as having made outstanding contributions to the profession of landscape architecture through excellence in research, writing, teaching, volunteering, and the design of their built works. Clients appreciate and value Virginia’s deep respect for place and for the human dimensions of each project.  Virginia gets things built – beautifully.

Paul Carabott, Landscape Architect

Paul Carabott, CSLA, has been practicing landscape architecture, urban design and community planning for more than 30 years. During this time, he has worked in Washington D.C., Toronto, ON, and Buffalo NY, and has completed projects in 27 states, 4 provinces, and overseas in the United Arab Emirates. As lead designer/project manager, Paul has been a key team member on more than 35 award winning projects. Combining innovation and creative thinking with technical proficiency, Paul brings a diverse set of skills to each project and has the ability to take complex projects from initial programming and concept development through to implementation. In his work with Virginia Burt Designs, Paul takes a personal approach to each assignment, working closely with clients to ensure their goals are met, their vision realized, and their expectations exceeded. Paul has a degree in Landscape Architecture from Guelph University and a Diploma in Urban Design from Fanshawe College.
