Blueberry Island
Hidden from the water and nestled beneath towering pines, this off-grid cottage on Blueberry Island is a testament to the owners’ commitment to sustainability. Wanting to preserve the natural character of the site and create a summer retreat with minimal impact, the architecture and landscape was designed to preserve as many trees as possible and integrate with formations of gneiss and granite formed during the precambrian era. Seamless indoor-outdoor connectivity is achieved through sliding doors that deconstruct the building envelope and continuous granite detailing that extends into the landscape. Boulders surrounding the cottage and plantings were carefully selected and located to restore the natural forest floor.
