Healing Gardens

Geller Terrace

Located immediately outside Seidman Cancer Center in Cleveland Ohio, Geller Terrace is constructed as a inaccessible green roof whose design intent was to create a Zen-inspired, eloquent space that invites the eye on a mental journey – to visually “stroll” through the natural forms and textures during long nights and all seasons. Implementing the Japanese artistic philosophy of “Shin-gyo-sho”, elements in the garden balance natural and human forms. The garden is a study of textural contrasts of natural materials within the geometric framework of the modern steel and glass hospital structure. Ephemeral patterns of sunlight and shadow cast by the steel beams over the granite boulders, native grasses, and river pebble provide respite for patients receiving cancer treatment, and their loved ones.
